IETE Pune Centre Marks 72nd Foundation Day with Focus on Indigenous Technologies

Pune: The IETE Pune Centre, in collaboration with MES’s Wadia College of Engineering, marked the 72nd Foundation Day of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the MES Wadia College of Engineering campus in Pune.

The event highlighted India’s progress in advanced electronics and critical technologies while recognising outstanding contributions within the IETE ecosystem.

IETE Pune Centre Focuses on Indigenisation of Hi-Tec and Critical Technologies

The Foundation Day programme was organised around the theme Indigenisation of Hi-Tec and Critical Technologies, underscoring the importance of self-reliance in electronics, communication systems, and emerging technology domains.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries from academia, professional institutions, and the electronics and telecommunications sector.

The occasion was graced by Dr R D Kharadkar, Vice President and West Zone Mentor, IETE India, and Vice-Chancellor of GH Raisoni International Skill Tech University, Pune, who attended as the Chief Guest.

Other distinguished attendees included Dr D S Mantri, Honorary Secretary; Dr A D Bhoi, Honorary Treasurer, IETE Pune Centre; Dr Sunil B Somani, Chairman, IETE Pune Centre; Prof Hemangee K Kapoor from IIT Guwahati as the Keynote Speaker; Dr B S Bormane, Chairman, Institution of Engineers (India); Dr M P Dale, Principal, MES Wadia College of Engineering; and Dr Pranoti Mane, Member, IETE Pune and Head of the E&TC Department at MES WCOE.

The programme commenced with a formal welcome and opening remarks by Dr M P Dale, followed by Dr Sunil B Somani, who presented the message of the IETE President and introduced the theme of the day.

Dr Somani highlighted India’s expanding capabilities in critical and emerging technologies and the role of professional institutions in nurturing technical excellence.

Dr D S Mantri outlined the activities and initiatives undertaken by the centre, emphasising student engagement, technical development, and professional growth.

In his keynote address as Chief Guest, Dr R D Kharadkar stressed the significance of strengthening indigenous technological development and encouraged young engineers to actively contribute to national self-reliance in electronics, defence technologies, and communication systems.

He appreciated the role of the IETE Pune Centre and MES Wadia College of Engineering in fostering innovation and technical competence among students. Dr Kharadkar also congratulated the IETE Pune Centre on receiving the Best Centre Award and highlighted future plans related to skill development initiatives under IETE.

Prof Hemangee Kapoor delivered a technical keynote on Emerging Memory Technologies: Longevity and Applicability in ML Accelerators, discussing advancements in memory architectures and their relevance in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.

During the event, the GH Raisoni College of Engineering and Management, Pune student chapter was awarded the Best IETE Students Chapter Award in recognition of its contributions and activities.

The programme concluded with remarks from other dignitaries on the growing importance of electronics, communication, and interdisciplinary research, followed by a vote of thanks proposed by Prabhakar Kotta.
